Abstract:Several recent articles point to the benefits that may be achieved by benchmarking without providing hard evidence which justifies the time and expense. That we can benefit from sharing the experiences of others has never been in doubt. Benchmarking provides the opportunity of comparing performance across sites and between companies to give an indication of current best practice. The article analyses a number of barriers currently preventing the efficient cross-fertilization possible with benchmarking and shows ways of overcoming them.
