Abstract:This study explores the influence of micro-enterprise (ME) managers' perception of their relationship to their environment on the nature of their ethics. A survey is performed with the head managers of 125 French MEs. Defined are two types of variables: 1. variables related to the nature and intensity of the relationships btw. ME managers and their social environment, and 2. variables related to the ethical framework used by the managers. Using univariate and bivariate analyses, there are shown significant statistical relationships btw. the variables indicating perceived embeddedness in the community and the ethical variables. Thus, emphasized is the idea that "communities of ethics" may have an important influence in MEs.
