Abstract: | In most industrialized countries defence expenditure is being reduced. The result may be fewer armed forces personnel and fewer pieces of equipment but also a sustained technological research effort. Many enterprises and groups of workers will be negatively affected since it is difficult to switch to production for civilian markets. Some 10 million workers in manufacturing worldwide are dependent on orders from the military. While much depends on the use of the "peace dividend", such developments will inevitably speed the transition from manufacturing output and employment. |
