Abstract:The Old Colony Shipbuilding Company (OCSC) has had a proud heritage since 1807. Its reputation was built on the twin foundations of the quality of its products and its contributions to the nation's defence. The original foundry was begun in Massachusetts in 1865 by a Union general and Civil War hero. In the early 1970s national defense was an important part of the nation's psyche due to the continued involvement in Vietnam. The 1980s saw a resurgence in defense spending.
