Abstract:This article discusses spatial distribution of forest loss and the total ammount of deforestation within a given community. The author develops and tests a theory of common property deforestation over space. This study suggests that the allocation of deforestation accross space is dependent upon both the absolute and relative quality and location of each hectare of land in the same community and the overal deforested land, which is determined by its physical attributes, as well as the characteristics of the community that affect its collective choise problem. The author also found that smaller group size, higher secondary education and greater inequality correspond to lower deforestation.
