Abstract:This case study article investigates the Amsterdam World Cup within the context of Dutch integration policy. The aim of the study is to explore the ways in which such events resist or reinforce dominant political ideologies, and also to examine the diverse conceptions of identity, community and multiculturalism. The interconnectedness of whiteness and national identity is analyzed, and the tournament's role in promoting multiculturalism, cultural interaction and integration is evaluated. The findings of the study indicate that the Amsterdam Word Cup can potentially challenge racism, but such events often have a reverse effect.
