Abstract:A case study is presented describing the application of a three-phase simulation package in an area where such a technique has not previously been applied, that of naval combat modelling. The information it is required to obtain from the model described relates especially to the likely expenditure of current in-service weapon systems, and to the number and nature of replenishment ships subject to submarine and air attacks, required to sustain a task force during an extended period of conflict. A simulation approach is adopted to examine further possible constraints on war arsenals due to attrition, especially considering the impact of the enemy's ability to target certain vessels preferentially.
