Abstract:This report covers the key points in the European market for ice cream, yoghurts and chilled desserts in five major markets: France, Italy, the UK, Germany and Spain. The period under reviews is 1991-95 for current data and 1995- 2000 for the future oultook. Assessments of market sizes for the countries under consideration are based on available data for commercial production of ice cream. Thus consumption figures relate only to industrially made ice cream, although some assessment is made of artisanial manufacture. The situation is further complicated by national yoghurt standards which only recognize yoghurts that contain live micro-organisms. Live yoghurt contains bacteria which have not been destroyed by heat treatment.
