Abstract:This survey covers the market for jams and marmelades and their equivalents. Jam is a mature market. Consumption is declining and there are few product innovations. The market was worth 82 mn pounds in 1997 and that for marmelades was worth 62 mn pounds. Market values have shown a long term decline. Two major players account for around 23% of jam sales and 50% of marmelade sales. Recent years have seen the introduction and rise of several new jam brands and the strengthening of own-label. Most activity has been at the premium end of the market. The major players have been slow to respond with competing products.
