Abstract: | This report examines the retail market for fast food in France, Italy, the UK, Germany and Spain. Maturity and saturation are principal features of many of the leading fast food markets. Menu diversification and intense price competition are key characteristics of fast food. The industry is becoming increasingly concentrated. Menus have been adapted to suit national tastes. A greater emphasis on non-traditional foods has underpinned growth in the pizza sector. Health-conscious customers are reducing red meat consumption. Growth areas include health-oriented foods, pizzas and sandwiches. Fast food is facing competition from in-store catering. |
