Abstract: | This paper presents results of a study of intergovernmental coordination processes and international negotiations. A quantitative negotiation analysis perspective is used to assess a European Union intergovernmental conference (IGC), which led to the Amsterdam Treaty. The focus has been the embeddedness of international negotiations within formal governmental organizations and informal communication networks. The article distinguishes the influence on negotiation dynamics and performance of each of the parties by using various statistical techniques. It is argued that these results are useful for research-based consulting. |
