Abstract:This survey looks at the retail market for confectionery in Spain covering the time period 1993-1997, forecasts are to the year 2002. The mature and largely stagnant Spanish confectionery market was stimulated during the survey period by demand for products such as boxed chocolates and coffee-flavoured sweets. A trend towards snacking, as spanish lifestyles become more hectic, coupled with heavy advertising, were contributory factors to the growth of certain subsectors such as countlines. Euromonitor predicts that the Spanish confectionery market will record volume growth of 5.6% over the period from 1997 to 2002, with the overall market reaching 185,600 tonnes by the latter year. Volume growth will be accompanied by negative real value growth of 7.1%, with the overall market reaching a total of Ptas175.5 billion at constant 1997 prices by 2002.
