Abstract:Convenience is a major influencing factor in most food purchases. Small packaging formats stimulated sales, and so did high-value products. Health concerns led to growing popularity of sugar-free products and undermined salesin more mainstream sectors. chocolate was the leading sector in the key markets in 1998. Gum was the smallest sector. Multinationals play significant roles in the confectionery market. Many domestic and specialist manufacturers are also present.
