Abstract:The authors consider the link between flows of knowledge and performance of subsidiaries in the light of human capital. An empirical study of subsidiaries of 130 Taiwanese multinational corporations (MNCs) is presented, and the results indicate how performance can be enhanced by outflows of knowledge. Interestingly it can be seen however, that the inflow of knowledge can lead to a better performance only when there are high investments on the human capital of the subsidiaries. Knowledge inflow appears to have a great influence on the subsidiary’s performance only in the early stages of its establishment.
