Abstract:In the article the ‘revisionist’ and accepted views on company performance’s persistence in emerging economies are combined. Data was gathered among Indian and American manufacturing firms, and it shows how the revisionist argument has a point; superior company performance in emerging economies persists only as much as developed economies. The results also provide support for the accepted view, which argues that poor company performance continues longer in emerging economies than in developed economies. Further, contrary to the arguments of existing literature, the companies that operate as a part of a MNC or a business group seem to have a greater persistence of poor performance that companies that operate without this kind of intermediate governance structure.
