Abstract:The article investigates the influence of managers' coaching intensity on the performance of their subordinates at multiple levels of organizational hierarchy, drawing on conceptual foundations of feedback and behavior modeling. A sample of 328 sales associates reporting to 114 middle managers, and 93 middle managers reporting to 32 executive managers is studied to test hypotheses. Using hierarchical linear modeling the article finds out that managers' coaching intensity affects the performance of their subordinates after controlling for job satisfaction, and this influence weakens at greater hierarchical levels.
