Abstract:Longtime IBM mainframe users have strong loyalties to some of the utilities they have been using for the past 20 years. Two of their favorites will soon be available on PCs running Windows 3.0 and OS/2 Presentation Manager. Among the hundreds of superior alternative products to IBM's that came on the market back were Dylakor's and Pansophic System Inc.'s data retrieval and report-writing software systems for IBM database products running on S/370 mainframes. The two companies are still among the market leaders today. For Dylakor, the goal is to keep the functions of highly successful existing software while downsizing it to fit into a PC box. Pansophic's PC front end allows its programs to be developed on a PC. Both support graphical interfaces.
