Abstract: | A substantial debate exists over the relative performance of software development in Japan versus that in the USA. A contribution is presented to this debate. First, a comprehensive literature review is given that analyzes existing comparisons of Japanese and USA practice, second, the first set of quantitative data collected from a sample of 24 USA and 16 Japanese software development projects is shown, and these data are used to test propositions from the literature. The analysis indicates that Japanese software projects perform at least as well as their counterparts in the USA in basic measures of productivity, quality and reuse of software code. |
