Abstract: | A special forecast is presented on the expected trends in the computer industry. Slow growth is expected in most traditional industry equipment segments over the next 12 months, but there are certain bright spots: software, laptop PCs, workstations and services. In the systems segment of the industry, IBM expects growth of 7 to 10 percent, at Digital Equipment the news is less positive. In the networks segment solid gains can be seen, especially in the electronic data exchange area. In PCs and workstations, RISC and multiprocessing are the hot spots. Software executives agree that 1991 will be a difficult year; UNIX will come on strong, PC software is softening this year. In the international scene, recession hits Europe. |
