Abstract:The concept of business alliances is defined. A short account of the history of the phenomenon in Japan is provided. Japan's outstanding success in computer industry since 1961 is explained. The role of new conglomerates (keiretsu) in this success is demonstrated. The constant efforts of the most powerful Western multinational companies involved in computer industry to increase their market shares since the 1950s are described. A number of tactical measures of the Japanese government as well as the Japanese conglomerates to make entry conditions unfavourable for them are surveyed. Figures are provided abundantly to support the arguments.
