Abstract:It is clear that, one year after the introduction of the RS/6000 workstation, IBM has finally put something big on this segment of the market. But mixed signals regarding product positioning and IBM's Systems Applications Architecture /SAA/ compatibility have confused some users. Early reports of flaws in the AIX operating system turned some customers off. IBM's intent is to provide complete interoperability between AIX and SAA in the years ahead. Some existing software products are listed where they can interoperate, on RS/6000 and on PS/2 workstation, both regarding AIX availability and SAA availability. Strategically, the RS/6000 is seen in the business applications area.
