| Abstract: | This article introduces a model of competing payment schemes that takes into consideration that users on one side of the market compete to interest the users on the other side. The former users are merchants and the latter users are consumers, who have the option to use credit cards. The authors examine the effects of competition between card associations and between merchants on the structure of fees related to card usage. In addition, the implications for other two-sided markets are considered. |
