Abstract:The user design and implementation of NETPA, a PC-based interactive computer-aided network planning system for the local loop plant of a public telephone network are described. The system replaces the old method of planning for exhaust relief using paper maps, hardcopy computer printouts, and hand calculators. Using graphics, pull down menus, pop-up windows and an advanced data base, the system draws data from a mainframe data base, displays the network configuration as a map, and allows a network planner to create a multilayer capacity expansion plan. The system is used by several hundred outside plant planners in a major telephone company in the USA.
