Abstract:Toy retailers often make half their total annual sales in the run-up to Christmas, but staying ahead of the game means a determined year-round effort. In the run-up to Christmas, as kids everywhere start to anticipate what's waiting for them under the Christmas tree, toy producers and retailers will be waiting rather more anxiously to see what Father Christmas is bringing them this year. All retailers see a surge in sales in the run-up to Christmas, but this is particularly spectacular in the toy sector, where retailers can often make over 50% of their sales in the last few weeks of the year. How big the surge - and the profits - will be in 1997, however, no-one will know until the tills stop ringing on Christmas Eve.
