Abstract:The concept of industrial ecology (IE) mimics the ecosystem principle of roundput as the emphasis is on the utilisation of wastes between different industrial actors. This paper applies IE to the regional energy supply system of Jyvaskyla City in Finland. Because the energy is supplied from co-production of heat and electricity and industrial wastes are used as fuels, the consumption of external fuels in the system is approximately 40% lower than it is without these two features.
