Abstract:Sustainability is no longer an abstract notion for companies in the energy utilities industry. Energy production and use are at the heart of the global climate change debate. If industrial society pushes for significant reductions in greenhouse gases, it will happen in part through a transformation in how utilities develop power for their customers and how their customers use it. While the scope and timing of change driven by concerns about climate change remain uncertain, energy-related companies need to be tuned into Sustainability issues now in order to envision strategies for change and prepare for opportunities.
