Abstract:There are two main challenges in the applicability Gidden's widely used structuration theory for various organizational phenomena. First the theory is complex and highly abstract and second, it is hard to apply empirically. This article aims to improve the empirical applicability by referring to experience in information techonology research. The paper introduces various research strategies that might guide students in dealing with three elements central to structuration theory: duality of structure, time/space and actors' knowledgeability.
