Abstract:Valiant Technology makes educational robots. The first one, the Turtle didn't sell because the toy market did not respond and the schools market was slow in taking the idea. Another reason of the failure was that the selling stand was badly located. Valiant decided to abandon the toy market and concentrate on schools. Roamer proved a more successful robot, its main attraction being that it is programmed directly from an external computer. Sub-contracting has been used in order to keep staff numbers and overheads down. What is important to managing director Catlin is that the Valiant company remains market- and innovation-led rather than finance-led.
