| Abstract: | This report analyses the market for domestic TV and video hardware in France , Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. Current trends cover 1987-1992, forecasts 1991-1997. Principal sectors considered in each market are colour and monochrome televisions, video cassette recorders and players, video cameras and camcorders, and laser disc players. A period of sustained economic growth in the late 1980s has been followed by economic downturn in many of the mayor markets, especially the consumer electronics sector. All market sectors have witnessed falling average unit prices as worsening economic climates, weak demand and cheap imports have precipitated price competition. Consumer spending conditions in the economies studied are expected to show signs of recovery during 1993 and 1994 because of lower interest rates and increased consumer confidence. |
