Abstract:This paper deals with attitudes of human resource (HR) managers towards the employment and employability of disabled people in United Kingdom (UK) accounting (hereafter as: acc-g.) firms. Using nine semi-structured interviews with HR managers in large and medium-sized UK acc-g. firms, out of which three participants from the Big Four firms dominating the market for acc-g. and auditing services. There are views uncovered on: i. drivers of disability awareness, ii. the role of partners, iii. how firms view disability, iv. impairments firms view as a problem, and v. job applications. The responses indicate an awareness of existing legislation on disability issues, especially the UK's Disability Discrimination Act of 1995. However, there is evidence that acc-g. firms restrict their understanding of disability to legal definitions.
