Abstract:Herein, explored are the role of motivations, prior travel experience, social ties and destination (hereafter as: dest.) choice in pre-trip (here as: p-t.) attitude formation. The study's sample comprises of a group of university students recently having take part in study abroad programs to the South Pacific or Europe.
It is found that academic motivations and social ties influence students' dest. selection for the study abroad program. Social motivation turned out to be the most important factor influencing attitude toward the dest. prior to the trip. Moreover, it is also found that the dest. intended to visit mediates the effect of social motivation on p-t. attitude formation.
