Abstract:Burnout is the inability to function effectively in one's job. It is the final step in a progression of unsuccessful attempts to cope with negative stress conditions. The syndrome is strongly linked to human service professionals: nurses, teachers, police officers. The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) is a widely used measure of occupational burnout. The present study tests the factorial validity of the MBI for teachers, and the equivalence of MBI measurement and theoretical structure across these teaching panels.
