Abstract:This article discusses the priving equilibrium of a competitive bus market based on ideas borrowed from the job search and price disperison literature. The study suggests that collusion is not required to obtain a monopoly price structure; it can rather be interpreted as a coordination device among operators to reach their most preferred equilibrium. The author argues that the results rationalize some facts found in deregulation experiences around the world.
