Abstract: | In the Federal Republic of Germany the Work Constitution Act (1952/1972) is a main part of collective labour law. The works committee and its functions are in an area of conflict between standards of labour law and managerial requirement. Empirical research shows different types of works committees in German firms though the Work Constitution Act assumes a standardized role for all the works committees. According to the Work Constitution Act, the employer has to bear the costs of a works committee and its activities. Hardly ever do employers inform their employees and the public about the cost of their work committee. In addition, it is very difficult to determine the benefit of the works comittee for the company. |
