Abstract:This article investigates the development of environmental management systems (EMS) and the practicality of their implementation. It also aims to advance the discussion on the viability of environmental management practices within commercial organizations. The role of management today is focused on the effective functioning of the organization. Management has therefore become a series of techniques and assorted functional disciplines and specialisms. The article discusses the importance of legal and social requirements, the organization's culture and the adaption or its value systems to enable effective implementation.
