ZERO-BASE BUDGETING

Abstract:A key success factor for any company is the effective management and control of its overhead resources and costs. It is shown how indirect costs are controlled through the annual financial budget. As a new methodology zero-base budgeting is examined in detail. Its processes and steps are highlighted. The process requires involvement and commitment from all levels of management. The implementation process must be planned like any other business strategy. The benefits are listed under the headings: planned costs reductions; resourcing new initiatives; planning and control; organizational culture. In the United Kingdom, the approach began to appear in the early 1980s. A case study is presented describing a company experience in the UK motor industry.
