Abstract:It is argued that firms in high-margin industries can benefit from founding family (herein as: f-f.) influence. Particularly, in more profitable markets, the influence of the f-f. provides an additional corporate governance-monitoring function. The study's sample includes over 290 firm-year observations from 98 publicly traded companies headquartered in Sweden. This represents about half of all non-financial traded firms. It is supported that the effect of family leadership in publicly held firms should be evaluated in relation to the industry competition intensity.
