Abstract:Companies that seek to grow and diversify their range of business frequently fail. They make investments in new developments with exciting growth prospects or high margins only to find that the new businesses suck in cash or management time and then fail to deliver the hoped for performance. A similarly high failure rate is experienced when companies enter new businesses through green fields investments. The author analyses various mistakes that managers often make.
