Abstract: | This paper explores some high-profile examples of failed acquisition strategies, examines the root causes of these failures, and presents some recommendations for making successful acquisitions. Companies may pick the wrong partners, often entering into a relationship for the wrong reasons. Even if partners choose wisely, the crucial period of adjustment may be too much for them. Successful acquisitions require a clear vision, careful selection and effective followthrough. Diversification makes sense only when it adds greater value than can be realized by individual investors diversifying their own portfolios. |
