Abstract:As part of the ongoing controversy about the role of size on divisionalisation, Grinyer in 1982 has suggested that size and diversification may interact as a joint determinant of structural reorganization. Cross-sectional evidence is found in support of the theory. However, diachronic analysis reveals that much of the apparent effect of size is spurious. The importance of using diachronic methods to study organizational development is demonstrated.
