Abstract:One of the more common guidelines in business is diversification of products in order to reduce risk. The methodology presented will attempt to identify opportunities whereby a firm may benefit by diversifying its specialized field of business internationally. The opportunity to both specialize and reduce risk through international diversification depends on how closely related the sales and therefore production levels of the specialized industry are across international boundaries. Opportunities to diversify returns over international boundaries have existed for steel, shipping and automobile manufacturing firms over the past thirty years.
