Abstract: | Most major companies now have a strategic planning system which they use to help them manage their long-term position. The effectiveness of the planning process depends on the management skills, knowledge and attitudes of all participants. Controls can assist in the development of these skills, focus attention on key success factors and facilitate the building of trust. Strategic controls vary greatly and are dependent on the nature of business. An effective strategic control process can be considered as a number of broad phases: decentralization of responsibility, development of a formal planning process, shift the emphasis onto controls. The main problem is the cost of the establishment of the planning system. |
