| Abstract: | It would be Manila's biggest real-estate project ever. A new city, three times larger than the Makati financial district. Gleaming skyscrapers, high-class condos, a marina filled with fountains and luxury playgrounds ranging from casinos to a huge golf course. All on 750 hectares of reclaimed land on Manila Bay, and costing a total of 60 billion pesos ($2.3 billion). For a few months last year Manila-based Centennial City became the stockmarket's darling on the back of this vision. A scandal-plagued Philippines land venture puts President Ramos in the hot seat. |
