Abstract:An executive's desire for independence and a chance to make a profit and large companies' willingness to get rid of non-core businesses all add up to a growth of buy-ins. They offer a match between under-used industrial and commercial assets on one side and under-stretched frustrated managers on the other. A search is going on for executives who have successful experience in charge of a profit centre. Many applicants are referred by recruiting specialists, some from companies that are slimming down. The majority of buy-ins is under 10 million GBP and the problem is often to fill in the gaps rather than motivate senior people.
