Abstract:This paper aims to critique the goal setting (here as: g-s.) literature, with particular emphasis on the effectiveness of different types of goals for successful transfer in management development (hereafter as: md.) programmes (here as: md-pgs). The focus was given especially to goal interventions used in education, training and skill acquisition settings during the last 20 years and how these studies have advanced the understanding of knowledge transfer (KT) from md-pgs. In general, it is suggested that the traditional result-based goals are ill-suited for effective KT and instead md. scholars and practitioners should use the newer forms of g-s. to ease KT.
