| Abstract: | In June 1982 Euromoney published the first Euromoney Five Hundred, ranking the world's banks by shareholders' equity in financial year 1981. The magazine billed it as "the definite ranking of the world's largest banks". Before that date, no reliable and comprehensive ranking existed. As part of the anniversary issue, the author looks back to that first Euromoney Five Hundred to see how things have changed at the top. This year's Five Hundred is presented and commented on. |
