Abstract: | The author of this article considers a market for a homogeneous good with consumers who differ only with respect to their preferred shopping times. The length of the shopping day affects costs in two ways: operating costs are increasing and capacity costs are decreasing, in trading hours. The author shows that a pure monopolist keeps his shop open for longer than is socially optimal. |
