Abstract: | Effective application of automatic guided vehicles requires the resolution of vehicle interference and system locking problems. This paper examines a simple method to eliminate these problems: the job shop is partitioned into cells, one for each vehicle, such that a vehicle operates only in its own cell. Intercell material handling requests are handled via a central buffer. The proposed policy is compared with the aid of a factorial design simulation experiment to a number of current control strategies. |
