Abstract:The trouble with internal quality problems is that they rarely stay internal for long. Customers and the bottom line quickly feel their impact as interdepartmental dissension spills over into cost or product/quality problems. By introducing internal guarantees companies can eliminate such 'holes in the hose'. How do internal guarantees work? One department makes a commitment to deliver its product or service to the complete satisfaction of another or pay a penalty. The result? A spirit of partnership develops between different parts of the organization.
