Abstract:Greater responsibility for their products has led manufacturers to a broader concept of 'product stewardship'. Cooperation among the various companies in the product's value (supply and disposal) chain becomes essential to develop a strategy for a 'green' product. A case study is described of bringing companies and governement together to address the management of end-of-life electronic equipment waste. The success of the project provides pointers as to why and how collaboration among firms in the management of the environmental impact of products is crucial, and can succeed.
